Outstanding GPA issues 7 Months, 1 Week ago
The Principlas of the GPA and their parties must treat the outstanding issues with the sincerity it deserves. Lets have MDC intensifying the call for the removal of sanctions and Zanu pf intensifying the call for a people driven constitution. As Zimbabwe we badly need a new constitution which does not breed dictators, one which brings true freedom to the doorsteps of the ordinary Zimbabweans. We need to do away with AIPPA and other draconian laws which hinder progress of the GPA as soon as possible. This will greatly benefit us as we move to re-build Zimbabwe our beloved country.

Quite right, but overly idealistic. Those two parties are enemies. They will never give ground to the other, for it would mean a defeat for their side. Personally I think the outstanding issues are a pointless stumbling block - we have a country to rebuild and can't wait for the politicians to finish bickering. I say we should move forwards to elections: the victor will appoint the positions being discussed, and the issues would cease to be. Simple as that.

I don't think the MDC has ever seen itself specifically as "the enemy" of ZANU-PF, or any other political party.

But ZANU has always been perfectly clear that anyone, or group, that doesn't agree with their ways, is "the enemy". They have always been, at heart, a hard-core militaristic grouping. That's understandable, given their history, and their origins.

What they never seemed to have understood is the value of change, and development. They seem stuck in time, mired in the chimurenga of almost half a century ago. And now, what we see is the deliberate self-continuation of that decades-old mindset, for their own selfish purposes.

Which includes 'winning' any election, by fair means or foul, as they have always done.

So while I think decent elections would be the best thing, until we can guarantee that the playing field is reasonably level, we are just set for a replay of the previous bloodbath.

I don't see that as any kind of solution. It will simply perpetuate the current stalemate, and add to the body-count at the same time.
